Occupational Health, Safety and Regulatory Issues: Current knowledge of Occupational Health related to Nanotechnology

  1. Nanoparticles can be measured using standard measurement methods (respirable mass or number concentration),
  2. workplace exposures to nanoparticles can be reduced using engineering controls and personal protective equipment,
  3. current toxicity testing and risk assessment methods are applicable to nanoparticles.

Yet, to ensure protection of workers' health, research is still needed to develop

  1. sensitive and quantitative measures of workers' exposure to nanoparticles,
  2. validation methods for exposure controls,
  3. standardized criteria to categorize hazard data, including better prediction of chronic effects1
