Environmental and Health Concerns: Product life cycle and potential exposures
Exposure to nanoparticles can take place throughout the nano products life cycle. Health hazards may be caused due to direct use of products containing nanomaterials, in the process of production or even accidentally.
Environmental concerns:
- Waste streams from industrial plants being discharged into streams and rivers where it could kill off fish and other wildlife.
- Accidental releases from production and during transportation of nanoproducts into streams, rivers and the atmosphere.
- Domestic nano waste discharge from the use of nanotechnology in cosmetics, toiletries and sun creams.
